Carnaval de Nantes

Today started the Carnaval de Nantes 2016 and the theme is Autour du Monde. I went to the parade today, and it was really cool. There were a ton of floats, each representing a different country. Along with each float, there were people dancing and wearing the clothing of each country.

At first, I was a little bit surprised by how the theme was carried out. It seemed a little racist to me because each country looked like its stereotype. However, it was very entertaining to see what the French think of each country. Of course, my favorite one was the United States float. It had a giant Uncle Sam sitting on a truck and holding

money. Behind that was a boy holding a burger and the Statue of Liberty draped in US flags. It was an interesting perspective.

All in all, I really enjoyed the parade! The music was fun to dance to, and it was very interactive. People could walk up to the performers, and the performers often came up to the crowd. The streets were packed and full of confetti by the end of it.
