Nantes, France

Wow, it feels like I've been here forever, but I've only been in class for a week. One week, and I'm already exhausted! I've realized that it takes me a little bit to warm up to French. For example, the first class of the day is always the hardest, and the first 20 minutes of that class is just plain painful. During those 20 minutes, I zone out and stare blankly at the teacher. I've already been asked if I was sleeping, to which I answered yes. But by the end of the day, French feels more natural. Sometimes, I even catch myself wanting to speak French to my boyfriend. The transition between two languages is hard. I can't imagine how some of my friends feel as they're speaking three or four languages in one conversation!

In one of my classes, my teacher made a map of all of everyone's country of origin. There is literally at least one person from each inhabited continent in the world. Here's a visual.

After the long week, I decided to reward myself and go out with some friends. We went to a bar/club called "Le Lieu Unique" or "The Unique Place." Even though the music was a little weird (or "unique" haha), I had a lot of fun! Drinks were pretty cheap, and everyone was dancing (something that I've missed from the US).

Overall, it's been a good first (third) week here. I really love the city, it's beautiful. There are always cool things to do and see. I also have friends, which is something I was worried about before coming. An added bonus: I don't have class Wednesday's or Thursday's. I plan on using this extra weekend to travel and explore by myself. And as for classes, they're going to be a bit challenging, but I'm excited to learn all that I can.
