GETTING OUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66

Well we had a good nights sleep in our King Size bed...you could easily have slept width ways at full length....A great breakfast of Lemon Tea and a banana more healthy than the last couple of days.
Well went down into Springfield to look at the Capitol Building and then on looking for the 2nd Giant. We found the Cozy Dog Drive In but it was too close to breakfast for me to try my first corn dog from the home of the corn dog. We also saw our first Drive Thru...... bank, would you believe it. We found the 2nd Giant at the Tyre place shocked that now he has an American Flag thought he had an exhaust or Muffler. Out of Springfield and on the open road. Lot's of corn fields small towns and old narrow roads. Highlights we re-enact

We also saw our first Drive Thru...... bank, would you believe it. a scene from Children of the Corn,we saw the typical Small-town rivalries between School Football Teams with every tree or post through two towns carrying motivational messages in their teams colours wish we had taken photos some very witty slogans what we would call banter between these Auburn Trojans and the NorthMac Panthers of Verden. We needed to make a comfort stop for Donna and eventually stopped in Gillespie..... we couldn't find anywhere. As we were wandering down the main street this lady was crouching by a door way smoking we assumed she was a bit of a down and out as the doorways after where she crouched had doors in them but nothing at all behind them it was literally a facade of a building with what was behind demolished. As we wondered back along the street, Donna hardly able to walk I noticed a sign high on the building "Lumpys Bar And Grill" the door was all metal so it was down to Donna was she desperate enough to try....she was. The inside was so

different to what we thought. Typical TV style Small-town American bar complete with Blues music. The down and out .. lol.. welcomed us warmly. We had a diet Pepsi a chat and obviously used the bathroom before we were on our way again with a couple of bottle holders as gifts. Back on the road we drove on an original brick section and found the turkey tracks in one of the concrete sections. We had to fill up with gas for a massive $23. Best of all we sat at the traffic lights on Elm Street and watched a Yellow school Bus drive buy Donna looked but Freddie wasn't driving lol. Eventually making it to St Louis and thinking our hotel was in gang land central I was a bit scared to stop the car to check the address. I eventually found somewhere open, ensured all the door's were locked, and checked. I had got East St Louis in Satnav not St Louis Metro area thank God. Another half hour and we were booked into The Embassy Suites by Hilton, in our room, sorry suite dining table, lounge/kitchenette and bedroom with two TV's. To top it off there were free drinks in the bar so we have

had a couple while I have written this, well it has been in the 90'sF all day. so I think we deserve a quiet drink or 3. Off to Springfield in the morning, Missouri this time.
Goodnight.
