Well neither of us can really understand where the time has gone, but here we are, our last full day in the USA, Just one more sleep. Donna has had hardly a wink of sleep blaming my snoring, I can neither confirm or deny, except to say that she is very very tired this morning.
Today is about seeing the Golden Gate Bridge up close, seeing China Town and riding a cable car. So up and out. First things first we sort out our transfer to the airport and confirm we can leave our bags till we leave for our flight home tomorrow.
Well we catch the bus to Fisherman's Wharf there we decide to do brunch and share clam Chowder in Bread, A large hollowed out Sourdough Roll filled with Chowder with the hollowed out bread on the side. Delicious and we were both stuffed from a shared portion. Then we get on to the hop on hop off bus......we first get off at Golden Gate South Vista. We are at the very base of the bridge great photo opps and a busy visitor centre. We get back onto the next bus and continue our tour. We go through lots of different areas including The Haight where the Summer of love in 1967 originated. We see a mural of Jimmy Hendrix on the side of the house he lived in for

We see a mural of Jimmy Hendrix on the side of the house he lived in for
several years. Next we move onto China Town. This area is ten blocks by three so we are never going to see it all but we still spend over an hour wandering. We jump on the next bus that comes our way. Today is very hot 95F and we are certainly feeling it. Every time you stand up it feels a little like you have sat in something wet and I have a cracking dark band on my shirt where the strap of my bag holds it to my body.We have made a mistake this is the wrong route red not blue so we are not going where I expect but straight back to the terminus at Fisherman's Wharf. We grab a quick beer at a pizza place.... only so we can use the restrooms. ( From this point I am completing this entry at 8am Monday after sparking out mid sentence tablet in hand last night) Then we think we will grab the next bus to get to the final bits we wanted to see. We were about to get on when we realise that this is the last tour....so if we get off there won't be another to pick us up. We wander round looking for something to eat. Finally we are in
Jack In The Box. Unfortunately we are behind two separate Mexican/ El Savordorean families who spend over $300 dollars between them and take 6 tables up, and several extra chairs. Our food still came quickly though. After our Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and the Hot Scirrachi Burger we decide we can catch the historic San Francisco Cable-car up Hyde Street and then walk the last 6 blocks to Hotel Carlton. So we pay our $7 each and find the queue which is quite long, never mind there is a guy playing the guitar near where you finally get on the Cable-car and the sun is going down behind the trees casting an interesting glow over the bay and Golden Gate Bridge. Well after about an hour of waiting we are maybe going to squeeze on the next car that is turned around.... I had noticed that when the guys who turned the last car around wondered off the turntable hadn't clanged closed like the previous few. So they drive the next car to the turntable and it traps itself half on and half off!! Well the two guys try to rock it back and forth nothing, then four guys still doesn't move then six guys..... not an inch. They keep looking at it torches out, after about another ten minutes a seventh guy turned up with a truck and chain winch. They hook up the car and edge forward, the car starts to move slowly forward then clunk something
jams again and now it's really stuck. Eventually the guys start admitting they don't know how long it's going to take to get the car and obviously the line operational so we would be better taking another line. Unfortunately that's not really an option for us as that won't be close to our hotel but the tickets will be valid tomorrow so that's it then. Across the road and back up to the 47 bus stop for our usual ride back. On the way back we pop into Aces a local Bar just along Sutter Street just past our hotel. A lively local bar with an open window frame to the street. It's got a couple of small seating areas and a largish round table with the Ace of spades in the top and The Aces logo emblazoned across it. Well a quick drink and then Donna says "Shall we just grab a slice of pizza?" So off across the road to Papa Johns. The sliced pizza has obviously been out a while but the guy in charge says he can put some fresh in it'll take six or seven minutes, well that's much less than we waited on Friday night so fine. The girl who had eventually served us on Friday, it had taken four of them, took our money for a slice of pepperoni and a slice of cheese pizza. A side note here if you are ever in the Sutter Street area of San Francisco and you fancy a pizza I would plan early especially if you ring in or book on line because just like Friday night a guy turned up to collect his order and it wasn't ready or even started. It would seem that the online system isn't set up very well and if you ring in just hope they aren't busywith walk ins! Well the girl pops over takes the Pizza out of the oven it's
ready the guy has done it in halves half plain half pepperoni The girl brings it over to the counter and she's ready to split it on the two trays to sit on the warming counter then she boxes up.... two slices of pepperoni we both look at each other and smile we are too tired to make an issue of it, I guess it sums up our experience of Papa Johns Sutter Street. Well back to our room, the Pizza is very nice, we have a nice chat about our day, and the adventure we have had over the past 23 days. Then we get ready for bed and I started this entry that was ten hours ago. That makes it the longest entry to date lol.
