GETTING OUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66

So waking up this morning in our suite lol....A 14 metre walk from the bedroom window to the door. A new eggsperience for us as we have an omelette tailor made in front of us and very nice it was too, along with bacon sausage scrambled eggs and toast, a great start to the day. A 4 block walk to the old courthouse and The Gateway Arch we had a look around the exhibits inside the courthouse and then we thought we would buy our tickets to ride the tram car to the top of the 604 foot arch! Disappointment the next tour didn't start for 40 mins and the experience lasts 50 mins reluctantly we agree that we really couldn't afford the time,I feel a bit guilty as I had made us walk another block and a half past the courthouse to take photos of the

Cardinals Baseball Stadium oooops. It is in the 90'sF as we head back to check out of the hotel and set out on the road.
Well finding the Mother Road and getting out of the city on the right route was a little troublesome causing a few heated words between driver and navigator but eventually we made it out.
First stop today was the Missouri State Route 66 Visitor Center the lady inside made us feel better about our difficulties this morning by saying getting out of St Louis was one of the most difficult parts of the journey. The visitor center had plenty of exhibits and stories of Route 66 and a good array of gifts. The lady was helpful giving us a couple of ideas where to visit. Unfortunately on getting back to the car I realise that the Satnav is broken the on/off button is sunk and the unit won't reset. Panic!! We are literally in the middle of nowhere with no satnav to back us up. A few miles down the road we see a Walmart.......They sell everything don't they? They've got a garden centre, an auto centre tyres exhausts and batteries they must have one. We went in and asked a member of staff who said yes and took us over to the auto centre...we passed the rifles so I was sure we would be fine. Unfortunately the team member was wrong there wasn't any sat navs. Auto Zone should have one down the road. So off we went to Auto Zone we went in and asked if they had GPS systems to blank looks all round, the guy we asked asked two other guys who both had to check then he checked the computer...computer said no. We were then directed to Pilot in Pacific, the next town along the road. Finally getting one there.....they didn't have the one that was on sale though, or so they said lol. Well with Satnav back we had to get a move on. A couple of stops to see one of the few Motels that is still standing and has never closed in over 80 years The Wagon Wheel Motel in Cuba charming place with a little gift shop and the owner didn't mind having a chat. Cuba is known as Mural City with many murals on the walls along the main street it was very interesting. Also we saw the Huge Red Rocker a massive rocking chair by a store that was packed with bikers. Today has also been a day for funny signs. PARADISE proudly displayed at the front of one of the most run down trailer parks you will find. Visit Uranus On Route 66. Uranus Fudge Factory. And my personal favourite Tan your Fanny @ Fanigans.
These signs some cracking scenery and the continuing experience kept us going till we found our home for the night Best Western Plus Coach House. Another experience ticked off as this is more like a motel .Our room is in a long row and we just had to pull the car up outside. Room is good though and there is a laundry room. So get some washing on then off across the road to visit our second Walmart of the day to get some rolls and some beer. I actually had a 6 pack....for a few minutes any way. About 200 miles tomorrow. Tulsa here we come!
