GETTING OUR KICKS ON ROUTE 66

To quote the Small Faces.
Certainly sums up our day, though I think we both need and deserve it. A bit of a lie in a cup of tea in bed a chat with the kids when Jaylum Skypes us it was a nice relaxing start. Leisurely showers sorting the cases out so we only need our rucksacks for the next few days. I did us scrambled egg on toast for breakfast, by this time we have usually been on the open road for a couple of hours.
A lot of TV channels have documentaries about the 9/11 attacks on this the fifteenth anniversary. These are still very moving to watch and delay us going out....and take up most of our evening as well.
Well we eventually go out for a drive just a wander really. We went to see Camel Rock.....literally across the highway. Then we had a drive to Tesuque village near the Tesuque Pueblo the houses here are mainly of a similar design obviously a traditional style. The village centre had an outside food hut and small car park several people sat around on plastic chairs chatting and drinking sodas. We then carried on our wanders and drove around some isolated but obviously well to do gated communities but but the houses were still mainly in the traditional style. We had seen what I thought was a sports stadium on a hill when we had driven in last evening so I thought we should go and take a closer look. Turns out it is Santa Fe Opera! We followed the road all the way up till it came to a dead end and partly closed driveway...You can see nothing of the stadium / opera house what a waste of time not to mention petrol. Next stop Santa Fe we first stopped at one of the malls, Santa Fe Place, another tick on Donna's list. Then a trip to Walmart for a few essentials, we just can't keep away from supermarkets lol. A drive around the city we see it is very different from the other cities we have been to and there are lots of the traditional style brown buildings. We saw some of the classic very low profile cars stereotypically driven by Latino/ Mexican men. This city / state feels so different. The history and the respect that is shown to the native American heritage, well now anyway, is impressive and the culture of the Mexicans gives a feel of almost being in a foreign country, odd that lol. Well back to our Room via the gas station, another $20, Donna cooks us pasta with a sauce reinforced with ham, onion, tomatoes and cheese very nice too. Well a nice quiet evening then off to bed.
