Pre-Cross Country Road Trip - East to West - Preparation

I thought we should start out with pisc of success! Hoping they "say(s) a thousand words...." A thousand "yay"s. The first is with the bed back up and the second is it lying flat! Now to get working on cutting down the mattress and making a cover for it and sheets. :)

So for the you out there that thought I was no master carpenter, you were right! But I am stubborn and can do anything I put my mind to be cause of it. This was a project of my own...other than the help I got to learn how to use new tools, I did this all by myself!

I also passed my probationary period, so I get to stay long enough to leave on my own terms and give notice Monday! :)

Before and after pics of the mattress cutting. I didn't have the cleanest of work areas! There's enough foam left over to make a nice double cushion for my ass for the long drive!

Amazon delivery day! I got my solar panel, charge controller, 2 cargo nets for interior ceiling storage, a volt or watt meter for the battery and my carbon monoxide detector!

The bed is finally complete. I put down my REI camp mat (deflated) to help give a little extra padding to cushion me from the frame, and also to help with storage/space saving. I put the mattress on top with my fitted sheets (covering the top and bottom) to keep the mattress clean. It is completely dark outside, being 10pm, so I will have to post a pic tomorrow. I did take a few minutes to lay on it and it definitely is comfortable. :) I can't wait to take it on a test run this weekend. I'd try sleeping out there tonight, but at 80 degrees and humid, I can only bear it for a min or two! Tomorrow, I hope to put up the mosquito netting and see how it goes. Then I can sleep with the windows open without getting bit. Those suckers are out for blood right now!

Next project: Solar setup!

Last night....when I should have been doing research for this trip....I stumbled upon my next adventure. Yeah, I know, this one hasn't even gotten off the ground yet, but I am looking at a 370 mile coast to coast walk/hike in Ireland! I stumbled upon a trip put out by REI to hike coast to coast in England, but who wants to go there! So then I thought, of all the places I'd want to be outdoors, it's Ireland and Italy! So watch out! After this trip, I might have to start training for to get up to 8-16 miles a day to do it! Spring 2016 would be a great time........ :0
