Pre-Cross Country Road Trip - East to West - Preparation

7/26: Woke up this morning feeling positive, but just a bit tired mentally. Put in ear plugs last night, and besides going to bed at 1 am, slept pretty good relatively to lately......still suffered from small bladder syndrome and got up about 3-4 times in 6 hours...so that's what I mean when I say relatively!:)

Today I want to clean out the crap that's in my car...already started by getting the passenger seat out of my cargo area/ new "bedroom"! Going to head to Costco when they open and pick up a deep cycle battery for the solar panel that arrives Tuesday. Woo hoo! New toy! New toy! The cargo nets are supposed to arrive then too. Also going to pick up the 3 inch mattress topper that will serve as my mattress :) Hopefully this afternoon, when it's hot hot hot, I'll be able to start on the window coverings from inside my apt! Then tonight when it get's hopefully cooler, I'll work on getting new.....sturdier legs on the bed and finish up the crate so that I can get working on finishing the reclining part of the bed frame......I think this will prove t be the most difficult....but I guess we'll find out.

Last night in bed I did research on Permethrin. I picked some up at the checkout display yesterday at REI. While waiting in line to pay, I picked it up and the guy behind me says it works wonders. He said he saw a tick crawl up and then fall off after touching the stuff that had been treated. I wanted to do some research before I actually used it. I had already been considering it. I was shopping for travel sheets/sleeping bed liners and I stumbled upon the ones that stated it had insect repellent. I was thinking this would be great for my trip to China, hoping it would work on bed bugs and whatever nasties they had out there. But I was leery about sleeping in something that had chemical insecticides embedded in it. After doing all the "online" (I say online cause I always have to consider the validity of the source) research, I've come to the conclusion that I am okay with using it as long as I limit it. This stuff is actually used in higher concentrations as a topical cream to treat scabies, even in children. I'm not saying that, that reason alone makes it safe...but I feel comfortable. At this point, I am not ready to treat my travel sheets for the cross country road trip, but I am considering doing it for the China trip, AFTER my cross country road trip. Instead, I've decided that I will treat the mosquito net that I will have surrounding my bed, but should not have direct contact with my skin. I'm also considering designating 1 outfit (1 shirt and 1 pair of pants and my hiking sneakers) for hiking and will treat them And I'll limit wear to just when I'm hiking or days that I plan on

Here are some updated pics of what the car looks like without the seats....during the day. Pre-costco trip and post!

I've been eating a lot of crap lately so I took the time today to make some healthy food. Fried rice with Wild Rice and Quinoa, eggs, black beans, onion, garlic, red bell peppers, and shredded brussels spouts. Guess what I'll be having every day for lunch since when I cook, it' for like zillion meals!

Let's see. I had lunch, then cleaned up and did dishes and packed a lunch and snacks for work tomorrow. I then put away 3 loads of laundry from about 2 weeks ago, I vaccumed the apt and changed the bed sheets, and started more laundry, then I cleaned out the car (there was a lot of stuff that was shoved into the passenger seat...it's like my junk drawer!) I straightened up the living room some. I was exhausted so I took a quick nap before walking Weeze and heading over to my friend's place to work on the bed some more. I was finally able to get somewhere with the bed tonight. I got sturdy legs on the base that now will support my weight. I got the crate done that would stabilize the top part of the bed and give me more storage....then I had a setback.....my fat ass broke the bed!!...okay, so maybe it wasn't me. I know it needed another leg in the middle for more support, but what I didn't count on was the knot in the wood in just the right spot that carried the most stress. I tried to head over to Home Depot to get a bracket to fix it, but by then it was 8:15 and I guess they were closed at 8pm. Am I the only one who works early and late around

here!!! So I headed home early. I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow.

I've included several pics in progress...and the broken bed pic too! At least I got a good laugh about it...and good thing my friend wasn't there to see it; I'd never hear the end of it....all this after having a conversation earlier with a friend about being a double X small at REI!

First pic is of the crate/shelf storage and support. Next pic is of how the bed is going in the car. Last is of the broken bed frame!
