It won't come as a surprise to most people, but I'm scared of heights. Also not a surprise, my kids don't really care about my fear of heights. Being the fabulous mom that I am, I sucked it up and took Penelope and Reilly to a ropes course. Brian couldn't do it because of his shoulder. So I put on the harness and tried not to wet my pants. The course we did had about 12 obstacles. Our first time through Reilly started freaking out on obstacle #3. Things got worse from there. Trying to keep him calm while I'm freaking out on the inside was not easy. More than anything I just wanted someone to come and get us down. It sucked. The last thing on the course is a zipline. Reilly finally let go of the ropes and realized he could hang from his harness and not fall. This seemed to calm him down. He also had fun on the zipline. Once we were finished he took of his harness and said he was done. We went to wash our hands because they were covered in tree sap. By the time we got back to Penelope and Brian he decided he wanted to try again. This was the last thing I wanted to do and of course he's not tall enough to go alone. Brian really wanted him to try again so he could overcome his fear. Once again I sucked it up and went. The second time around Reilly was a completely different person. He only stopped to wait for me once because he wasn't tall enough to get on the obstacle. I was so proud of him for sticking with it and realizing he could do it, even though it was scary. I should add the whole time we were there Penelope was tackling all the obstacles on her own with no problem, and no fear. She even went on a higher level course without us. I was super impressed. And super happy I didn't need to go with her.
