Working with Pongo

Didn't have a great night's sleep again, so I woke up early and decided to have a swim. The pool attendant was really chatty, and is actually the nephew of one of the guys working at Sepilok. He had a really cool name (which I have forgotten) It was something like Octovinarian – because he was born in October, but his nickname is Kopie. I took a little wander around the herb garden before taking a dip. The pool was nice and cool, and the sun started shining through the clouds. Kopie was really sweet and set up some cushions on one of the lounge chairs for me, but I couldn't stay long, as I needed to have breakfast.

At the buffet, as well as the usual fare, there were noodles, rice, deep fried carrot cake and donuts! Then we headed to the Jari Jari Spa, which is onsite at the hotel, for a massage. We got a ginger tea (very strong on ginger) and went in for a foot soak beforehand. Steph had already spotted one of the masseurs and said she looked really scary, and nominated me to go with her. After our foot soak, this same lady walked in the room and went straight to Steph! We looked at each other and it was so hard not to laugh. Then we got led to the massage room - which it turned out was a couples room, so we would be lying side by side. We had just been talking about the fact that hopefully they wouldn't put us together just because we booked together, but they did! So as soon as they left the room, we couldn't help but start giggling. It was a lovely back, neck and shoulder message though, although over too soon as always. Then we checked out of the hotel and headed into town.

The girls stopped off to do some shopping, while I headed to the mosque. Annoyingly, as soon as I got there it was closed for one hour for prayer. So I walked around taking photos and then had to wait in the sun for the girls to collect me, so we could head to the airport. It was such a hot day! I could feel myself burning up, and traffic meant I was waiting for a while - but they found me eventually. I got some delicious white choc chip and macadamia cookies while we waited for the plane (still warm!). It turned out to be a sister airline (Mas Airways) we were flying back with, and the plane was quite small, with external propellers! You definitely feel all the bumps when you're in a smaller aircraft, but we all survived. For the last ten minutes of the journey the majority of the view was palm oil trees in all directions, which made it really apparent why acquiring land for the release of orangutans around Sepilok is tough.
