S & J's Big Adventure

Half an hours stroll along the Boulevard Poissonnier, round the corner onto the Boulevard de Sebastopol down to the Seine and one of the most well known Cathedrals in the world.

Hundreds of tourists milling around in front of the Cathedral and a meandering queue, the end of which was out of sight. The queue was moving quite quickly but this gave me the impression that once inside there would be precious little time to slowly take in the interior of the building, so decided to explore the exterior at my own pace.

Happy I made this decision because around the back of the Cathedral

Happy I made this decision because around the back of the Cathedral

there are beautiful gardens. Quite simple but tranquil and gentle. Groves of trees, possibly Hornbeams have been pleached to create shaded areas to sit under during in hotter weather and open spaces for soaking up the sun. But the best thing about it was that there were hardly any people. So few in fact, that it was easy to take photo's without anyone in the frame. And another bonus, there is a free public toilet there too.

Took the back streets home and discovered a 'Food' street. Deli's, fruit shops, fishmongers, fromageries, bakeries, cafes and bistros. Everything. Plus it was pedestrianised. Popped into a bakery and picked up a delicious filled baguette.
