S & J's Big Adventure

Our last full day in Paris and a decision has to be made about where we are going today. Sacre Coeur and Montmartre won out because being late autumn, The Tuileries are fading and it will be a good excuse to come back in springtime.

Again, we take taxi up the hill and I was really pleased about this decision because once we reached the Cathedral, it was much higher than I anticipated. The city was just visible beneath the haze.

Sacre Coeur & Montmartre

Our last full day in Paris and a decision has to be made about where we are going today. Sacre Coeur and Montmartre won out because being late autumn, The Tuileries are fading and it will be a good excuse to come back in springtime.

Again, we take taxi up the hill and I was really pleased about this decision because once we reached the Cathedral, it was much higher than I anticipated. The city was just visible beneath the haze.

The queue into this Cathedral was quite short so it didn't take long to enter another beautiful building and be awed by the gloriously colourful mosaic murals adorning the walls and ceilings, including one stunning mosaic of Joan of Arc.

There were also two statues which appear to be covered in gold. Only got a photo of one.

We lunched on bouillabaisse and crusty French bread. The soup was mouth-wateringly delicious. Johnny said it is the best soup he has ever had.

After our lunch we wandered around Montmartre looking at the artists and their work. Many doing portraits of the visiting tourists.

Walked back downhill to our base picking up some delicious crusty filled baguettes to eat at home.

Managed to take another wrong turn and had to backtrack but this city is so vibrant in its own particular way so, no problemo!
