S & J's Big Adventure

We are staying at the same hotel we over-nighted in 7 days ago. I mentioned my breakfast the morning that Johnny took off to Saint Petersburg. Well, I figured if the cafe could dish up such a yummy breakfast, they could probably do a reasonable dinner as well.

So we ate there on our first night. We both had a mouthwatering Flemish beef stew. Decided it was so good we returned the second night for another helping. Had to go back for a third visit just to try something else on the menu. Didn't disappoint. Sorry we are not

Sorry we are not

here for a week so we could work our way through the whole menu.

The invalid had to find a hospital today to have the emergency plumbing checked. It seems that things are coming along nicely and a lovely nurse removed the extra pipes. Various tests were undertaken and there is nothing untoward to report but a further prescription of antibiotics have been provided to take him through to early November.

While Johnny was having a nice rest in the emergency department I took the opportunity to visit Brussels Palace of Justice or The Law Courts of Brussels. This is the most important Court building in Belgium and the biggest Courthouse in the world. It was built between 1866 and 1883. The total cost of the construction, land and furnishings was somewhere in the region of 45 million Belgian francs. It is reputed to be the largest building constructed in the 19th century

and is a notable landmark of Brussels.

Sadly, like a lot of Brussels, it is in a very shabby and unkempt condition although there seems to be a renovation job happening on the exterior. It could do with a massive clean up on the inside as well. Regardless, I was gobsmacked at the sheer volume of the building.

Notice the wigwam thingy around the base of a tree. I thought this was a rather nice idea to add interest to a garden. Not sure what the purpose is here, stop people stealing the geraniums perhaps, or removing the opportunity to use the area as a dog toilet. Whatever, it's a nice touch.

Last night in Brussels. Off to Ypres tomorrow for the next three days.
