Peru & Bolivia

This morning we went out on a boat tour. We were supposed to go to the Ballestas Islands, which are often referred to as 'the poor man's Galapagos', but it was too windy for the boats to be so far out. Instead we did a shorter trip to the nearest of the islands which is home to sea lions, pelicans and penquins. On the way out we went to see the Candelabro de Paracas which is well-known prehistoric geoglyph found on the northern face of the Paracas Peninsula at Pisco bay. Pottery found nearby has been radio carbon dated to 200 BCE, the time of the Paracas culture. It is 183m in height and 60m wide and Is quite imposing. We then moved on to the island where we saw lots of sea lions on the rocks and penquins and pelicans on top of the cliffs. We went all the way round the island so as to view it from different angles. On the way back to shore we saw some dolphins and seals near a fishing boat.
