Peru & Bolivia

Our tour operators picked us up at the bus station to start our Salt flats experience. Our guide was called Harry and there were four of us in our 4x4 Land Cruiser, the other two being a young German couple.
Our first stop was at the train cemetery where there are the remains of 19th and early 20th century steam locomotives and sculptures made from used train parts. We then drove on to the Uyuni Salt Flats. They are vast and we drove to the Playa Blanca, an ex salt hotel where we had lunch. The entire hotel is made of salt, as are the table and stools. There were lots of sculptures around the dining area and rooms off the corridor. Outside are the flags of the world and the Dakar monument from when the Dakar Rally was held there. We then went to a remote part of the salt flat where Harry took photos of us using props. We had taken a blue butterfly as a reminder of Denise so I took my walking shoes off and we had some perspective photos done using these props. It was great fun and Harry was very good at posing us.
Our next stop was at Incawasi island where there are giant trichocerus cacti. It is very hilly but we managed to get to the top to look out over the flat white sea of hexagonal salt tiles.
We then drove on to another part of the salt flat to watch the sunset. Harry had brought wine and nibbles for us to enjoy as the sun disappeared behind the mountains. It was very cold now so we drove to our salt hotel where we had a hot meal before retiring to bed.
