Peru & Bolivia

This morning we had a tour of a Pisco vineyard which has passed through the hands of 5 different generations. The whole process of making Pisco is done by hand and is part of Ica’s tradition. They explained about the festival that takes place during harvest time where everyone is invited to be part of the entire experience, which begins with the grape collection, taking them to the grape press and participating in pressing, by treading grapes following the rhythm of music. After treading, the grapes pass to another pool in which they get squeezed with a huge 160 year old wooden press to extract the juice. It then goes through various processes resulting in Pisco, a clear liquid with a 40-45% alcohol content. We then had a tasting session of a few of the different wines and Pisco followed by a lovely traditional lunch. We then went back to Huacachina to drop some people off and pick others up before making the journey to Nazca.

As we got near to Nazca we stopped at the viewing tower to see some of the Nazca lines. We saw the lizard, the hand and the tree.
After we were dropped off in Nazca at our hotel we went for a walk around the town. We ended up at the plaza where a stage had been erected and we realised from the signs that there were celebrations for the Virgin of Guadeloupe which were going on all week.
We made our way back to the hotel for some food and then bed.
