Peru & Bolivia

This morning we went to the craft market in Miraflores to look at the beautiful items for sale. Lots of alpaca blankets and scarves in lovely colours alongside bags and purses in lovely bright colours. We then caught the bus into Lima where we had a walking tour of the city. It was the same guide as yesterday and again he showed us many old buildings and explained their history. We walked to the Plaza de Armas to see the cathedral, government palace and the municipal hall. We went to see the old post office building, the old station which is now a library, the original library with beautiful wooden furniture and an old bank which is now a museum. We went to the San Francisco convent which is a Baroque style building with lovely tiled walls donated by benefactors and went into the extensive catacombs where thousands of people were buried.
We were supposed to do another tour in the early evening which was cancelled. This tour was to take us to the Magic Water Circuit so instead we made our own way there. This is a park with lots of fountains which are lit up at night in changing patterns. It was quite spectacular but as it had started to rain we made our way back to the hotel on a very crowded bus where you had to push your way on and off. We then packed our cases ready for an early start tomorrow.
