Peru & Bolivia

We started the last of our Peru Hop journeys this morning. Our journey took us to the Bolivian border where we had to depart the bus with our luggage to go through immigration. It was a long walk uphill past lots of stalls selling household goods to reach the border. Debra our guide got us and our luggage a ride in a turk tuck there. We now changed to a Bolivia Hop bus and guide and once everyone was on board we drove to Copacabana where we had a few hours to do see the sights. We went for a meal and then walked up to the Plaza and 16th-century shrine, the Basilica of Our Lady of Copacabana, dedicated to Our Lady of Copacabana, the patron saint of Bolivia. There were lots of stalls selling colourful products and religious images. The Basilica was very ornate as the Spaniards wanted to change the religion of the local people.
There were also lots of cars there decorated with flower garlands. Owners take them to be blessed as cars are so expensive and hope that it will keep them safe.
We walked back down to the lake to watch the world go by with a coffee.
We then got back on the bus which took us to the ferry for the crossing of the Tequina straights and on to La Paz.where we collapsed into bed in our hotel.
