Rome just keeps giving!

Another stunning day. Today's mission was the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Ruins. These 3 tourist spots are right next to each other. All I know is that we walked and explored for hours.

First Sunday of the month, all museums are free entry in Rome. Which meant, we had free entry into the Colosseum. Of course, there was a line up, we waited about 30 minutes, the line kept moving quiet quickly, I can't explain the feeling/emotion, that I felt when I entered the Colosseum. Only one who has attended can

As they say, a visit to Rome isn’t complete without a tour of the Colosseum. This amphitheatre in the centre of the city was the largest ever built, taking almost a decade to construct during the Flavian dynasty. It’s one of Rome’s most popular tourist attractions, with over 4 million visitors a year. The Roman Colosseum was built by Emperor Vespasian as a gift to the people of Rome. Construction began around AD 72, but the amphitheatre wasn’t completed until AD 80.

The Colosseum in Rome is freestanding. It could hold over 50,000 spectators who were seated according to their rank in society. Everyone could watch clashes between gladiators and wild animals. The Colosseum was where all the action happened for about 400 years, until gladiatorial combat was phased out in the 6th century.

The Palatine Hill, is one of the most ancient parts of the city. The site is mostly now a large open-air museum.
