Our Adventures in Portugal, Spain, France & Italy

So yesterday we left Tuscany and made our way to Rome. First thing we had to do was drop off the rental car near the airport and then caught a taxi to our Airbnb apartment.

Today after breakfast, we set off to explore. We had Vatican tickets for 1:30pm, so we had a few hours to kill. We made our way to Castel Sant' Angelo. Bought tickets to enter the Castle. So much history. As I was walking through it, I was telling my family how it remembered me of the Game of Thrones series. Walking and picturing the suffering of the prisoners and the slavery. The view from the top tower was breathtaking.

From there we walked across the Ponte Sant' Angelo and made our way to Piazza Navona. Piazza Navona is one of the most famous monumental squares in Rome, built in monumental style with the typical shape of an ancient stadium. We entered the Sant' Agnese church. Diogo, Maddie and Claudia light a candle and made a wish.

We made our way to the Vatican. As we had purchased our tickets online, it was straight forward to get in, no line up required. The tickets I had purchased included the Open bus garden tour and the museums. The open bus tour went for about 45 minutes. The Gardens of Vatican City are private urban gardens and parks which cover more than half of the country, located in the west of the territory and owned by the Pope. There are some buildings, such as

Vatican Radio and the Governor's Palace, within the gardens. Once the guided tour was finished, we made our way into the Vatican museums. Such a vast collection of art and archaeology.

By this time, it was close to 3;30pm, and we were hungry, we exited the Vatican museums and went on the hunt for some spaghetti carbonara. Maddie had grilled steak with roasted potatoes.

Tonight there is a football match between Roma and AC Milan. Diogo, Rui and myself decided to go search for tickets. We walked about 40 minutes to the Stadio Olimpico, but unfortunately, it was sold out, back home we walked.

First full day of Rome done. Can't wait to explore more tomorrow. Rome you are a beautiful city and I'm loving you!
