After dinner last night, we got quite a thunder storm in New Hazelton. When we left this morning, the roads were mostly wet, and there was still some fairly thick fog as we made our way into Smithers for coffee/breakfast at the local Tim Horton’s.
We then headed to the local HD shop for a poker chip. Matilda was in
a spending mood, so she decided she was get herself a fancy, dancy new water pump while we were there. While we waited for Matilda to get done, we met some interesting people that were travelling through and had encountered some bike problems. A group of 3 ladies that had ridden from Dallas, Texas to Hyder, AK and were heading back home for some tight deadlines, a fellow from the Yukon that has to bring his bike all the way to the shop in Smithers to get service, as it’s the closest one to home for him!
Once Matilda was done her shopping, we headed out on the Yellowhead Highway (AB16) all the way to our destination for the day, the Prince Motel in Prince George, BC. The Yellowhead is a nice road to ride, and although there is a bit of traffic on it, it really isn’t too bad, as it winds through numerous hills, valleys and lakes in BC’s logging and farming countryside.
Our wildlife viewing today included watching a fairly large bear scoot across the highway in front of us - it seemed to be scared off by the train passing along the track that runs parallel to the highway, and a few deer that just casually watched us drive by.
We made a stop for a quick bite in Vanderhoof – the geographical centre of British Columbia – before making our way into Prince George for the night.
For the day, we logged a total of 448 kms for a total to date on the trip of 13,088 km
