Day 31 - Regina, SK to Steinbach, MB

For the very most part, since we hit the Yukon territory we have been sticking to the original route plans. Today though, was a totally different story. After being on the TransCanada for the vast majority of the day yesterday, I decided that I was going to change it up a little bit and stay off of it for part of the day.

So, after having some breakfast at the hotel, we hit the road and veered off onto AB48 just east of Regina. That made for a less stressful ride, not having to fend off the transports and other people that are in a hurry to get anywhere.

After having visited the World’s Greatest Dinosaur, driven by the World’s Largest Weather Vane and the World’s Largest Teepee, I thought we might want to go past the town of Montmartre and see the Eiffel Tower Replica. We also stopped in Kipling – where

apparently nobody is around at 9:30 am, and the local Tim Horton’s doesn’t open on Sundays – to go check out the World’s Largest Paper Clip, and the interesting story behind how a young internet trader manage to trade up from a paper clip all the way to house, all within a year!

We stayed on AB48 all the way to the scheduled fuel stop in Virden, MB and decided at that time that we may as well stay off of the Trans Canada for the rest of the day, so we continued on towards Griswold (no, they weren’t home ;-)) and picked up Hwy 21 down to the Red Coat Trail (AB2), which we wound up taking all the way into Winnipeg.

Now, the local Harley shop in Winnipeg isn’t open on Sundays, but I had made a deal with their staff to arrange to get a couple of poker chips for us, and they came through for us! After that, it was a fairly short drive to the town of Steinbach and our destination for the night, the Frantz Inn. It has a restaurant and lounge right on the premises, so that is where we had dinner.

For the day, we logged a total of 687 kms, for a total to date on the trip of 15,809 km
