After a coffee at the Northway Motor Inn, we started out today with a bit colder (11C) temperatures, but still quite comfortable as we continued our trip south along the Stewart-Cassiar Hwy (BC37).
Once again, the scenery and the road did not disappoint at all – with some great views as we rode along the ridges, along the valleys and at times, within the abyss of the clouds, especially around Skitine Hill. The road itself is in quite good shape, which makes it so much more enjoyable.
After a nice ride, we stopped in at Bell 2 Lodge for some fuel and some breakfast. The lodge is so called since it is on the 2nd crossing

The lodge is so called since it is on the 2nd crossing
of the Bell-Irving River.
We made a few more stops along the way to check out some of the views and just basically enjoyed the ride – during the entire stretch of nearly 450 kms, we had 3 cars pass us and we didn’t have to pass any at all!
We did manage to see a total of 6 bears, including what looked like a momma, pappa and cub family at one point. A couple of other sightings were made along the way, including what looked like a weasel of some sort.
By the time we reached our destination and checked into our hotel – the Robbers Roost Motel in New Hazelton, BC, we were told that the 7 km drive to check out the historic villages that make up The
Hazeltons was very worth while. So, after a so-so dinner at the Rainbow Café next door to the motel, we hopped on the bikes and went past Hagwilget (which has a large suspension bridge that crosses the Hagwilget Canyon), Two Mile (so named because the residents were non-conformists and therefore were not allowed to live within a 2-mile radius of the original town), Gitanmaxx and Hazelton – we went for a walking tour of Old Town Hazelton while we were there.
For the day, we logged a total of 565 kms for a total to date on the trip of 12,640 km
