Today was scheduled as an easy day, with the original plan being to leave Mossleigh, head into Calgary, check out the 2 Harley dealers there, meet up with Jana’s brother for lunch and maybe spent a couple of hours sightseeing in the city. In the end, it was a good thing that the day didn’t have us travelling too far.
After breakfast at Cassie’s restaurant in Mossleigh, we headed out in cool temps and sun along AB24 to catch the Trans Canada (Hwy 1) and then take it into Calgary and Calgary HD. Once we got to just the
Calgary city limits, the clouds took over and the drizzle started coming down. So, we pulled into the dealership and 9:30ish, got our gear off and waited for the rain to finally slow down or stop. That didn’t happen until well after 1:30 pm.
So, Jana’s brother Andy and his girlfriend actually came to meet us for lunch near the dealership, which we greatly appreciated. The rain finally ended, so we put on our gear and decided to forego the rest of the plans for the day and just headed west to the Best Western in Canmore, our destination for the night. There were some pretty strong gusts along the TransCanada highway, but the last 30 kms or so were just beautiful as we got closer and closer to the Rocky Mountains.
Once we were checked into the hotel, we were met by Everywhere Joe and Romy, who will be riding with us for parts of the trip into the Yukon and Alaska. We went next door for dinner at Craig’s Family Restaurant and got all set up for tomorrow’s journey up towards Jasper.
For the day, we logged just under 206 kms, bringing the total for the trip to just over 4,371 kms.
