We took a bus and train to get to Warsaw, Poland. Straight away we noticed how many people were everywhere as it was a National Day and therefore a holiday. The day before there were protests regarding the Government and it was lucky that we missed it all. Our host was great and gave us lots of tips for exploring the city. She had a coffee shop which had the most amazing cakes! The Old Town was rebuilt in the 1980s as it was basically destroyed in WWII. The first day we walked on the Old City Wall and did a tour of the Palace which was amazing and got in for free which we were very happy about! There were some paintings from Rembrandt which had an x-ray thing so you could see all the layers of paint. It was very interesting and one of the paintings had clearly been something completely different before it was the girl in the finished product. We climbed to the top of a building which had great views of the town square with the famous column there. We walked around a lot during this time and the architecture was so beautiful. The old town was completely dead and they were setting up for Christmas markets. It was a shame that we were too early for this! It was also bitterly cold! The last day we were in Warsaw we did a walking tour of the old town which was really interesting. We saw Marie Curie’s house too.
