Kyle and Danielle's Big OE

We left Vang Vieng in our tiny and uncomfortable bus en route to Luang Prabang and to get there we had to cross mountains again. This country is nothing like we imagined it to be. It is beautiful and quiet and the people seem to be very proud here. Nowhere near as third world as Cambodia is. Luang Prabang again did not disappoint with our whole group agreeing that more time here would have been awesome. It resembled a quaint European town and has a really nice night market and restaurants. It was here that we found out that Laos is the most heavily bombed nation on earth per capita. During the Vietnam war the Viet Cong used Laos to construct a series of trails from the North to the South which America bombed heavily. 1.5 million tons of bombs were dropped on Laos. Half of the tonnage that the allies dropped in World War II. On average one person dies or is injured every day in Laos due to the unexploded ordinance (UXO). What good does war do? We walked the town dead, watched a sunset on top of Mount Phuasi (got smashed by mosquitos), had dinner at an incredible bar and restaurant called Utopia and did archery and drunk tenpin bowling at 2am, before getting up at 5am to give alms to the monks as they return from their morning prayers. Dedication right there!
