Today, I drove the RV the first 5 miles, from the campground to route 80, as part of my “drivers ed”. I think I did okay, but Jay kept saying, “Get left”, since I was hugging the right side of the road.
Another day driving on route 80, about 250 miles. Traffic was not bad, but, there was quite a bit of construction. Well, let’s put it this way, there was quite a bit of lane closures for construction, but there was nothing going on.

We arrived at our destination for the day, Pokegon State Park, in Angola, Indiana. This was our second stopover at the park. The park is located on the shores of Lake James. It has the usual biking and hiking trails, nature center and bike and boat rentals. But it also has hayrides, saddle horses, and in the winter has a refrigerated twin track toboggan run! That sounds like fun!
We had a pull thru site (unusual for a state park) with electric only. The campsite was spacious. The campground was busy, but not full. I was surprised by how may big dogs (German Shepard, Labradors, etc) were in the campground. Very different from the lap dogs we mostly see in Florida RV parks.
We were lucky again with the weather, so, both Sandy and Pilgrim enjoyed walks in the park.
One place of interest in the park was the Country Road Bridge. It is a recreation of the original bridge that once spanned the road. The original bridge was constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1936. In 1953 the bridge was replaced with a concrete bridge. By the 1990’s the concrete bridge had deteriorated. So, in 2000, they replaced the concrete bridge with a replica of the CCC bridge. Today, the bridge carries residents to private homes along Lake James.
