Days 5, 6 & 7: On to Maple Grove, Mn and Fargo and Minot, North Dakota

Day 5
Saturday, June 24, 2017

A cloud burst and a cool 56 degrees greeted us when we arrived mid-afternoon at the KOA in Maple Grove, Minnesota, on the outskirts of Minneapolis.

The skies cleared, so I had a chance to do a little dog training with Sandy.

Five o’clock mass at St. Walburga church was only minutes away. It was a tiny old church, in the gothic style. The priest’s homily tied the readings to a true story of Al Capone’s lawyer, Fast Eddie and then to Edward O’Hare, Fast Eddie’s son. It was mesmerizing.

We took a break from cooking and had dinner at Claddagh Irish Pub. My fish and chips and Jay’s Burger with a Jameson glaze and beer cheese were

delicious. Jay especially enjoyed the bourbon filght (pictured).

Day 6
Sunday, June 25, 2017

We were still lucky with the weather today, sunny and mild. Today I did my first driving on the highway, about 37 miles. I was glad to give Jay a break, but it was a little stressful for me. We put a block of wood underneath the gas pedal, so the heel of my foot could rest on it. But I found that I couldn’t do that when going uphill or needed more “ pedal to the metal.”

Our campsite was at Lindenwood Campground, which was located in a city park right in the heart of Fargo, North Dakota. It was a lovely park with baseball fields, playgrounds, and bicycle paths, in addition to the campground. We enjoyed walking the dogs in the shade of the tall elm trees. Afterwards, we relaxed outside the motor home and I did some rug hooking and dog training while Jay read.

Day 7

My driving experience is increasing! Today I drove one hour on route 52 in North Dakota. The hardest part of driving was staying awake!! The road was straight and the topography was flat, mile after mile of farmland.
