Today’s drive was definitely not boring. We started out at Fort Nelson, the lowest point on the Alaska Highway and drove through Summit Lake, which is the highest point on the Highway, on our way to Muncho Lake. Today’s drive was definitely not boring. We started out at Fort Nelson, the lowest point on the Alaska Highway and drove through Summit Lake, which is the highest point on the Highway, on our way to Muncho Lake. The night before, Jay had attached a device called a car guard, between the motor home and the CRV, to protect the car from stones being kicked back by the rv. Was that ever a good idea. There were frequent areas of loose gravel throughout the drive.
We had two lucky animal sightings today. We had just left Fort Nelson when a black bear crossed the road right in front of us. Then, near
the end of the drive, a young caribou did the same thing.
But, today’s drive was all about the views as we passed through Stone Mountain and Northern Rocky Mountains Provincial Parks.
We had reservations to stay at Toad River, but decided to push our luck and drive on to the Muncho Lake area. What a good choice! We were able to get a site right on the 5 mile long lake. It was our best site to date.
One last note, as I was waiting in line to check-in, I was conversing with a gentleman who also was in line. He and his wife were on their way to northern Alaska where he has a one year position as a teacher in a 2 room school house in an Eskimo community of 35 families. There is no road to the village, so he and his wife will take a small plane to get there. Now that is an adventure!
