Day 8
Tuesday, June 27, 2017
Heading northwest out of Minot, North Dakota, we got a break from the monotony of the flat terrain we had been experiencing during the past few days. For about the first hour’s drive, we enjoyed vistas of the rolling hills. Then it was back to flat and straight. This time, however, the countryside was dotted with what appeared to be small active oil wells.
We crossed the border into Canada without any problem!
Day 9
Wednesday, June 28, 2017
We started the day with a stop at the RV center just down the street from our campground. There was a malfunction in the system that connects the RV brake and turn signals to the car brake and signal lights. It is illegal to tow a vehicle without that connection! We spent almost two hours at the service center, but, unfortunately, the technician couldn’t discover the cause and couldn’t devote more time to help us, so we just had to move on as planned.
Today’s scenery was similar to the last few days, lots of farmland. An exception was the occasional beautiful field of bright yellow flowers. (pictured) I had no idea what crop it was, so I googled it and learned it was canola! Turns out that the word canola is a combination of “Can” from Canada plus “ola” which means oil.
We settled in at Eiling Kramer Campground. The small city-owned campground has large sites separated by grassy areas with ample shade trees. Although there is plenty of space between campsites, we did, in fact, have to share our site….with gophers! They are so cute, about the size of a squirrel without the bushy tail. They scurry about from one hole to the next. However, they are considered a nuisance because of the large holes that they dig.
