Our Great Canadian Road Trip Adventure - Summer 2017

Onward we travelled through Northern Ontario. Day six and we were going strong. I decided to contact my friend Nancy, whose hometown was Schreiber, to see if she could recommend a motel for the night. She basically said there weren’t many options in this tiny town, but we could try the motel of a family friend. Evidently, this family was the biggest showbiz family of Schrieber! Not only had the father, Cosimo Filane, sold several albums of his music, but his son Sal, one of Nancy’s good friends that used to hang out with us in London when we were at Western, was an actor in many commercials, tv shows, and even a movie! Who knew we would find such fame in a tiny town

Who knew we would find such fame in a tiny town

of Schrieber. That and the most incredible red shag carpet I had ever laid my feet on! The motel was fairly modest and catered more to construction workers, but it had beds and that was all we cared about!

We had recently run out of our food, so we hoped we could get a few basic supplies at the motel gas station/restaurant. I sent Sadie and Brie out with some cash, and they came back with a partially gone loaf of bread! Apparently, the guy in the restaurant felt bad that he didn’t have any food to sell the girls other than chips, so he went in the kitchen and found them a loaf of bread! None of them had a clue how much a loaf of bread cost, so they paid five dollars for it! Too funny!

Before it got dark, Sadie and I went on a little excursion to check out Schreiber Beach. It was only five minutes from our motel but a little hard to find. The water was calm and did the trick of calming our minds...leading to a good night’s sleep before another (perhaps final!?!) day of travel.
