Bruce Peninsula

Day one of our travels went smoothly. With the car packed to the brim, we headed to Bruce Peninsula National Park. By late afternoon, we set up camp at Cyprus Lake and ventured out for a quick dip in the lake, which was at the end of a little trail going from our site.

After a light dinner of leftover pizza and tuna salad, we went for a hike up to The Grotto. At first, Lily didn’t want to go, but when she realized that the hike was shorter than her walk to school, she led the way like a hiking pro! Her rock climbing classes also came in handy once

at The Grotto. I sat at the top of the cliffs and admired the view while the girls climbed down to explore The Grotto and the crystal-clear blue waters of Georgian Bay.

After our hike back to camp, we felt a yearning for something sweet and remembered the dozen billboards we had seen driving up Highway 6 for The Sweet Shop, in Tobermory. We got to Tobermory just as The Sweet Shop closed – “What the Fudge?” – and got ice cream cones at a store nearby instead.

We went back to camp with the plan to have a campfire and make s’mores, but after several tries, burning half of our fire-starter sticks, and about half a box of matches, we realized a bonfire wasn’t going to happen and called it a night. What a day! So filled with adventure! A perfect start to our road trip across our great land.
