Our Great Canadian Road Trip Adventure - Summer 2017

We knew we had to be at the ferry dock in Tobermory by 10:00 am on day two, so Lily set us up with 6:00 am alarms!! It was a good thing. We had a quick bite to eat, tore down camp, and got to the dock with plenty of time to do some souvenir shopping. This time we got to The Sweet Shop just as it opened! A free sample of peanut brittle led me to buy two big bags of it. Sadie got maple fudge, Lily got birthday cake fudge, and Brie got a large blue lollipop! Boarding the Chi-Cheemaun was a breeze since we were one of the first cars in line. The ferry ride was smooth sailing, but a little foggy. There were only certain areas we could go where Chip was allowed – the upper deck was beautiful, but a bit too windy for Brie. Before we knew it, the ferry docked in South Baymouth, on Manitoulin Island, and we were on the road again.

I remembered my friend Pam lived in Sault Ste Marie, so we had dinner with her and her son Duncan at the Golden Dragon Chinese Buffet. We were sorry we couldn’t stay longer and catch up, but we really wanted to get to Lake Superior Park before dark, and it was already past 8:00 pm.

We arrived at beautiful Agawa Bay Campground, in Lake Superior Provincial Park, at dusk, and set up camp at a site beside the beach by the light of the headlights of our Ford Flex. It was a chilly and wet night…down to about nine degrees!! BRRRR! When I got up, I went into the car to warm up using the heated seats! The rest of the clan soon followed.

Although we had wanted to spend the day at the beach, the wet weather, cold temperature, and swarms of bugs prevented us from doing anything but collect a few bags of colourful rocks and tear down camp to continue the journey…
