Canada Day! We were so happy to be spending this day celebrating the natural beauty of our great land. How appropriate that this was our most scenic drive yet! So many ooooo’s and aaaaaa’s, but not over fireworks…instead, they were for mountainous hills, rocky cliff sides, waterfalls, pretty lakes, and picturesque islands. Many times, it was Sadie chiding her sisters for not looking up and appreciating the view!
The landscape was so amazing that we took advantage of more than one scenic lookout point by the side of the road. We were most
pleasantly surprised by the little hike down a wooden ramp to see Aguasabon Falls, in Terrace Bay. It was shortly after this stop that we saw a female moose cross the road! So cool! Earlier Sadie saw a deer jump into the woods. We even came across the birthplace of Winnie the Pooh, in White River, Ontario, where we stopped for lunch and visited a park.
We arrived at Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park, just outside of Thunder Bay, late in the afternoon to find that I had booked the wettest, muddiest site in the park!! It was an amazing park, with beautiful waterfalls, but we took one look around our site and could only imagine Chip rolling around in the mud while we tried to pitch a tent. I decided it was a good night to stay in a motel room.
We found a modest one nearby called Kakabeka Falls Motor Inn and took the room they offered. Modest was being nice… The door was missing a handle, there was only one dim overhead light, and a tiny square TV in the corner that didn’t work, but none of this mattered to us! There was not one complaint. In fact, there was no limit to the praise the girls gave to the hot shower and warm beds!!
No one cared to leave the room to find Canada Day celebrations that night. We had our own party in our room with glow sticks, warm French Vanilla coffee, my Canadiana music playlist, unlimited snacking, and card games! Now that was a fun party!!
