25th July Ipoh to Kl - Finlay arriving
It was quite noisy in the night with motorbikes but had a lie in until about 9am. We were all get excited about Finlay arriving today. He would have been on his second leg when we woke up. Dominic went off for an early swim and then we all went to the hotels buffet breakfast and feasted on some very odd stuff. Watermelon, fried noodles, chicken curry, chewy cereal, very runny boiled eggs, white toast but most delicious bread and butter pudding with a vanilla cream custard. Hopefully that sets us up for the day.
We all went swimming, actually Dominic went to the gym and then swimming. Packed our bags and went to the foyer at 11.35 and checked out but no Taxis!! We only had 15 mins to get to the train station before we boarded. She said to be there 1/2 hour before. We started walking very fast, still no taxis! I thought maybe if we ran(with all our packs) we could just make it before the train leaves at 12.15. Luckily a taxi did come along and here I am now sttting on this very plush train on my way to KL and have finally caught up with my diary! Its amazing the coaches and trains are so much more spacious than anything in Europe and most of the people are much smaller. Marcus is like a giant here. So many people stare at us obviously they cant work out the boys ages as in the KL pool she thought Marcus was 20! They also must wander where my husband is etc etc.
Writing this 2 days later. My keyboard is not working anymore so back to onscreen typing which is a real bummer and even more mistakes!
The train arrived on time at 2.30 pm. We got off at kl's old station as we could walk to our guesthouse from there. but just as were about to walk on the road there was a huge clap of thunder and then it just poured for about 1/2 hour it was a deluge. So we waited under cover until it had subsided. The roads were flooded. We walked the hundred yards to the Travelhub GH to be given a room in the new wing. What a contrast to the first night. It was bunk beds and then a raised, platform double bed with a sofa. And the bathroom next door was nice too.
I set off at about 4.30 to pick finlay up. I took thr 5pm Kliaa airport express and it took 1/2 an hour. I was a bit peckish so grabbed a sneaky cheese burger and coffee at the airport. Finlay 's plane landed about 5.22pm and he got out in under an hour it was great to see him and we were back at the GH by 7.15
Finlay had a quick shower and then were ging to walk to Jin Alor to eat, but we took a different route out of the GH and found some great outside tables. We had claypot chicken rice and then picked all these different skewers with chicken, squid, tofu, lamb, pork and they bbq it for us. We sat at a table with a big steaming pot of water set in the middle of the table with a gas cooker underneath so you could steam your food if you wanted. Great evening, a few beers and then we went up to the roof top in our Gh where they had a bar and took in the view. We didnt want to go to bed too late as we had an early start.
