France Part One

Folkestone , 09.03.2021

Our original plan for this trip was to tour Scotland, and include in this the route the NC500. Change of plan; head south. Cue 2 weeks of understanding Covid requirements, sorting vets for Daisy’s paperwork and other preparation. Everything fell into place on the Friday with the delivery of the Covid test kits an hour before we left; phew!

Did a pub stopover on the Friday in Stilton, Talbot Inn was nice pub but didn’t allow dogs so we spent our allowance across the road at The Bell which turned out better in the end. Free digs for the night though, peaceful night parked up in their car park

Trip then the next day to Folkestone, took longer than planned as we trusted the SatNav to avoid a problem on the M11, and consequently used farm tracks to get us back onto the M25.

2 nights then at Black Horse Farm club site before we cross the channel on

Monday 6th September. Saturday afternoon we had a pleasant walk and then called at the lovely pub across the road from the site. Shame to hear it’s closing soon. Got chatting to a couple from Wirksworth who were enroute home from their 2nd home In Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. Consequently, we BBQ’d in the dark, bangers and mash went down well though. Lovely day on Sunday, first shopping to buy me a new head shaver as I forgot mine. 2 months not shaving my head and I’d look like Mo Mowlam. Spent a few hours on the sea front at Sandgate, where I used to lodge during my time working at the tunnel around 30 years ago. Sandgate Hotel still there, we were blissfully unaware back in the day of it’s questionable reputation. Really enjoyed the walk along and the area along to Hythe is lovely. A few hours back by the van, with beers in the sunshine was enjoyable.

Looking forward to our tunnel crossing in the morning and seeing where we’re heading off to. No plans yet, but I’m sure we’ll be following the sun whilst we

can.
