Pershore

After yet again another cancelled trip last week (with a repeat of the heating system fail and another trip back to Newark to get it repaired again; our patience is being tested and I’m trying to stay calm as the Dealer so far has responded really well to getting issues sorted) we finally managed our second outing of the year. We’ve some ground to make up as we’re falling behind our average of last year, and Mrs H was waiting for me to stomp back into the house any moment during van loading chuntering we’ve an E638 fault situation again. All good so far.

We had a residual booking over a weekend at Chatsworth but decided we’d been plenty of times already, so chose to visit Cheddar Gorge instead with a 2 night stopover en route at a CL at Pershore (Goodleigh Farm). We did some work perhaps 25 years ago for the EA at Pershore on flood defences, an area prone to rising river levels and particularly the historic bridges. This CL apparently won CL of the year, and deservedly so; immaculate, fully serviced, hard standing pitches well spaced out with all facilities excellent. Great location with a 15 minute walk into town, via a thoughtfully lit off road path and access to loads of walks and cycling routes etc. Friendly owners, who went out her way to make sure we were ok and provide lots of

information, and I do mean a mind boggling amount.

Arrived on the Tuesday and after a pleasant stroll from the site over fields with views over to the Malvern hills we wondered into Pershore for a few customary early doors beers, excellent dog friendly pub The Star Inn, with a very good draft HPA went down well. Wednesday was mainly spent shouting at an unusually badly behaved pooch who decided it would be fun to roll in 3 different piles of very smelly shite; then throw herself into the river on our walk. After dousing her in tomato sauce, endless showers she still stinks. I was hoping a bike ride later would get some fresh air to her perched in the buddy rider for a couple of hours. It didn’t. Nice ride though, part of a Bredon Hill 19 mile circular through some lovely historic villages with mahoosive timbered houses; we did have to cut short though as running out of daylight. No pub tonight but a very nice meal to come back to, slow cooked pork in a Chinese style honey sauce. Mountain of pots in the small van wasn’t great

though!

Overall, impressive area and great site which I’m sure we’ll return to at some point. Loads to see in the area. Pershore apparently famous for its plums and annual plum festival in the summer.

Onto Cheddar in the morning..
