Miklos & Tori's Japan Adventures

We stopped in Himeji on the way home from Iya Valley because we really wanted to see Himeji Castle.

Himeji Castle is one of the 12 original castles in Japan that was not destroyed by fire, storms, earthquakes, or bombing in WWII. In fact, get this-- bombs were dropped all over Himeji City during WWII. The city basically burned to the ground, AND a bomb was dropped directly on Himeji Castle, but fortunately it did not detonate. So, the original castle in all of its splendor, still stands. For that reason, and for its astonishing beauty, it's a HUGE tourist spot. Even with covid bringing a full halt to international tourists, the castle was still full with tourists.

Needless to say, photos do not do it justice, and we were happy to be able to check this off of our list of places to see!
