Miklos & Tori's Japan Adventures

Our very first Christmas in Japan! From our families to yours-- Merry Christmas!

We used Christmas day as a day of recovery and pure relaxation. We did not leave the apartment once. A large part of that was probably due to the fact that we have been on the go so much. More than likely we all needed a day of recovery, and what better day to have lounging around the apartment?

Miklos made everyone french toast for breakfast. He also used our takoyaki maker to put a fun spin on takoyaki. Don't know what takoyaki is? Okay, here's the scoop-- takoyaki is a Japanese street food. It's a dough-like ball that has a piece of octopus inside and has a variety of condiments on top. A traditional version of takoyaki would be topped with a sauce (similar to worcestershire), mayo, green onion, and bonito flakes. This is Miklos's absolute favorite Japanese food! No wonder he bought a takoyaki maker for the apartment. At home, he makes his own delicious vegetarian version of takoyaki

At home, he makes his own delicious vegetarian version of takoyaki

to accomodate Tori. However, on Christmas he used the taokyaki maker and made a dessert takoyaki. It had chocolate bits inside and was sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was a hit on Christmas morning!

The remainder of the day was spent opening presents, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, playing cards, and having a delicious Christmas feast!

When in Rome.... or in this case, when in Japan, do as the Japanese

do... right? That being said, we could not resist pre-ordering a matcha (green tea) buche de noel cake. Oh, and do not worry... supermarkets also allow you to pre-order speciality Christmas pet desserts, too. This, of course, we were also not able to resist, and needless to say our fur babies enjoyed their Christmas treat!
