Miklos & Tori's Japan Adventures

We got so many deliveries today!

As you can guess, we're working hard to turn our apartment into a home. It's a bit overwhelming and a bit expensive, but it's fun!

Last week we got a delivery which included our fridge (you can see it pictured in the corner of the first picture), washing machine, and two cabinets.

Also, how cute is picture #2? That's our girl, Cam. She's loving having a new mattress to sleep on, even if the bed-frame itself isn't assembled! Also, take note in picture #4. Yes, that's a drying rack. We'll be using that along with the laundry poles on our balcony to dry our clothing. No dryer!

Every box that you see in the first picture arrived today. It includes: our mattress, bed-frame, TV stand, kitchen table, chairs for kitchen table, and a ton of home goods that we bought from Ikea. It's so nice because Ikea ships everything including all of the random odds and ends you buy along with your furniture.

We're pretty amazed by the low shipping costs. The cost to get the fridge, washing machine and cabinets was $10 USD. The cost from Ikea for the table, chair, TV stand and random odds and ends was $30 USD. The last delivery came from Japan's version of Ikea, a store called Nitori. The delivery we got from Nitori included our mattress and bed-frame and that was $10 USD.

The good thing is that tomorrow (Tuesday) is a national holiday- enthronement day. Miklos has off for the holiday, giving him plenty of time to work on assembling!

So, what exactly is enthronement day? You might be able to guess by the name... If you guessed that Japan is getting a new Emperor, you're right. Traditionally, when Japan gets a new Emperor, it's because the previous one passed away, causing the enthronement day holiday to be a bit sad. This time, however, the Emperor basically stepped down or "retired" and his son is now stepping up. So, it's a rather happy time, and leads to a happy holiday and celebration!
