Similarly, to the last couple of mornings, we woke to an alarm and the smell of fresh coffee. We enjoyed our couple of espressos on the patio, soaking up our final moments of the tranquil mountains.
By about 9am we’d packed up the house and started our drive back down the mountain. We detoured past the supermarket to grab some supplies for lunch, before finally arriving at Sorrento Port. We said goodbye to Marina for the day and boarded the 10:25am ferry over to Capri!! We actually hadn’t planned to visit Capri, knowing how ridiculously expensive it is but also how busy with tourists it can be, however Marina highly recommended that I visit it as I’ve never been.
We arrived to what felt like the tourist capital of the world, Capri… I’ve never seen so many people, and Australians (!!!) on such a small island. It was about midday by the time we arrived so we made our way to the beach, attempting to scoot ourselves in-between the millions of people, to enjoy our lunch. We had a bit of platter happening; cheese, salami, ham, prosciutto, and biscuits – and it was delicious. We were very grateful for the tip from Marina to bring lunch as it would have been a ridiculously expensive day without it.
After lunch we decided to head up to the town of Capri for a bit of an explore, but apparently the rest of the island had the same idea. Both the funicular and the bus line were packed with people attempting to get up the top, and there was nothing orderly about it! I sent Connor off to get tickets while I jumped in the Funicular ‘mob’, I wouldn’t even call it a line as it was such people swarming around the electronic gates. Although it felt like it’d be a huge wait, it ended up only being about 10 or 15 minutes before we finally got through, arriving at the town of Capri within about 20 minutes. We had plenty of time to kill so decided to just wander the streets for a couple of hours and despite every shop being bougee ‘Chanel’, ‘Louis Vuitton’ & ‘Christian Dior’, it was actually quite enjoyable to just window shop and people watch.
By about 2pm, as the heat of the day really kicked in, we decided to splash our money and grabbed a gelato to share. Not just any gelato though, this shop hand made their waffles as you ordered - our first gelato in Italy did not disappoint!
We headed back down the Funicular and decided to spend the last couple of hours lounging on the beach – absolute bliss. We picked the perfect time, while the beach was still very busy, it had quietened down from the morning and the shade was slowly coming over the mountain, making it a very beautiful temperature.
We took the 6:10pm ferry back to Naples, and then the bus from the port, arriving back to the house by about 8pm. Marina cooked up a beautiful pasta for dinner which was a simple tomato base and pasta served with a side of big meatballs. Both the pasta and the meatballs were delicious. I couldn’t believe that such a ‘basic’ pasta, could be so flavoursome. We of course ate wayyy to much, crawling our way to bed by about 11pm.
