Trip of a Lifetime

We were up relatively early this morning getting ready to Skype my mum for her birthday. Daylight savings had happened overnight in Melbourne which meant it put us 3 hours behind (previously 2 hours), and so we had to call earlier however it ended up being a great way to get our sleeping schedule back on track.
We chatted to my parents for an hour or so while enjoying a coffee and the beautiful beach view in front of us, before ending the call and deciding to get one last swim in here at Genting. We donned our bathers and headed down, I was in within 20 seconds however fitspo Connor decided to run himself through a little beach workout beforehand. Nonetheless, we both eventually enjoyed our swim and then headed back up the room to freshen up and begin the bag pack up.
By 11am we had checked out of our room and our kind host was dropping us to the port. Definitely not the safest mode of transport as we sat in a homemade wooden box which he’d somehow attached to the side of his motorbike, but we made it in one piece and it was a fun experience.
Our shuttle boat wasn’t due until about 11:30 however there was another ferry arriving at the port at the same time as us, so we asked if we could jump on and go to port ABC. They agreed and even gave us a much better price than the later shuttle boat although were quite certain there must be an unspoken rule about not shuttling guests between ports (as that’s what the shuttle boat is for), as they quickly waved us on with many smug looks shared between them all.
We arrived to ABC port just before midday and had a short walk from the port to our accommodation called J+B Dive Centre. We’re actually staying in the hostel part of it however its quite nice and much more lively than the previous area we were in. We’re not actually doing our diving course while we’re here as I physically can’t (bad ears) and Connor wasn’t hugely interested considering I can’t, despite my encouragement! We do however plan to do a snorkelling trip and then a little more snorkelling off the beach of our accommodation so I’m sure we will still be able to enjoy the beautiful marine life that this area is known for.
We dumped our bags at reception and headed off for lunch to the nearest restaurant as we needed to kill an hour until we had access to our room. We opted for a curry noodle dish and actually a burger too… The beef in the burger was…interesting (edible though!), but the actual burger was quite impressive! The curry noodles, oh my goodness it was so delicious!!
By the time we’d finished lunch we decided to head back to our room and don our bathers for a quick dip. We took our goggles and headed out to see what we could find. Although we were only swimming from the beach there was still some amazing coral and fish to see, we even saw a stingray! We were exhausted after our swim as we only have goggles (no snorkel), so all the breath holding had ruined us! We sat up on the beach and enjoyed the sunshine for a couple of hours before heading up for showers.
After we’d freshened up we decided to head down and find a snorkelling trip that we could do tomorrow or the next day. We decided on the ‘coral trip’ which had a few different stop off’s and we opted to do it tomorrow.
Feeling content with a few plans booked in, we decided to hang out in the hammocks on the beach and catch up on all things Facebook and Instagram. By 6pm we headed over to the bar where I grabbed a margarita cocktail and Connor enjoyed a beer while both soaking up the beautiful beach view.
For dinner we headed to another nearby restaurant where we got a honey chicken with rice and a fried noodles to share. Neither were our best dishes but they were both very enjoyable. By 9pm we headed back to our room where we chilled out and watched a couple of shows before bed.
