Another long night of trying to both keep warm we were SO eager to get out of this apartment. Not only did we spend majority of our time in bed under the doona to keep warm, it was also WAY to cold to shower so we were both feeling a bit gross.
We loaded the hire car up and Connor dropped me off to the train station with our gear while he returned the car and enjoyed the 20 minute walk, luggage free. We sat in a nice cosy café with a coffee before boarding our 9:56am train to Glasgow. After about 4 hours we’d arrived in Glasgow and had the short walk to our hostel. Although we had a private room at this hostel, we were so disappointed to arrive into a really filthy and smelly hostel. I can’t believe I forgot to take a photo of the bathroom floor but honestly, you’re probably grateful. There was mud and dirt smeared ALL OVER the bathroom floor, not even just high traffic areas – EVERYWHERE. Our room smelt musky, but the whole hostel had such a weird stench to it. However, we both quickly remember how expensive accommodation in Glasgow was so decided we just had to suck it up.
We dumped all our gear and headed out for a walk to suss out the area. While out, we noticed lots of signs for the Glasgow International Comedy Festival which had just started, so decided that would be a fun thing to do tonight. We had a look at a few online which were all booked out before finding one at a nearby pub at 5pm. On our way back to the hotel Connor grabbed a few beers while opted for a Coke, I’m still recovering from my Edinburgh hangover. We met a couple of guys from Wales at our hostel who were planning to have a big night so enjoyed a few drinks with them before heading to the pub for our comedy show.
I could not express my concern enough when we arrived to the show, about 5 minutes early and walked in to find the whole room empty…just us two. I would have HAPPILY walked out of the room then and there because I could genuinely think of nothing worse than being the only two in the crowd. Somehow Connor convinced me to stay and one other man arrived last minute. It was truly the most awkward 45 minutes of my life where all I did was giggle the WHOLE show because I felt so awkward. I think Connor being a few drinks deep took the edge off it for him and he quite enjoyed it, although admitting it was still awkward. We grabbed a couple of kebabs on our way back to the hostel, where Connor planned to have a few more drinks with these boys we’d met.
We ended up hanging out in the communal area of the hostel with Ben and Nick for the rest of the night where the boys drank far too much alcohol and Connor taught them a few Aussie drinking games. While I remained sober, I decided to call it a night by about 11pm while the boys planned to head to a pub in tow, although I was hardly asleep before they all returned home!
