John and Selina's Drive Across Country

Three days on the road heading east. Lots of beautiful mountain scenery. We stayed the first night in Winnemucca, Nevada, partly because it was a good distance from San Francisco, partly because we like saying it and partly because Johnny Cash sings about it.

We had a nice surprise on the second day. We drove through the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, where they set land speed records. I didn't know that was on our route.

Our second night found us back in Salt Lake City. And this time, we did go to see The Book of Mormon, which is wrapping up a three week run this week. If you've never seen the show, it is a funny, vulgar, irreverent, and at times brutal take on The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Seeing it blocks from Temple Square in Salt Lake was a trip. The crowd was totally in to it and at times wanted to just roar at what was being said and sung. but then would quiet themselves so they wouldn't miss anything. My guess is the audience was mostly made up of non-Mormons who were thoroughly enjoying seeing the powerful church brought down a few pegs. Crucified, if you will.

Meantime, a guy had his food truck parked right outside the theater, hoping to cash in.

We are in Cheyenne, Wyoming tonight. Almost all of our day tomorrow will be in Nebraska. By the end of the day tomorrow, we will be back in the central time zone and only one time zone away from Amanda. That makes me happy.
