Cross Country Trip-- Preamble

"I left my home in Norfolk, Virginia, California on my mind."

Well, actually Baltimore. That's where we are leaving. But California is on our mind.

Selina and I are planning a trip across the country.

It seems like a good time to do it. This is one big, beautiful country and we want to see some of it.

We leave July 30. First stop, Lexington Kentucky. Eventually we will land in San Francisco. Chocolate, sourdough bread, family, the Pacific Ocean.

We will share our travels. We hope to visit Oz, a couple of Presidential museums, a canyon or two, Salt Lake Sit-eeee. Family in Vegas. Maybe a couple of stops in Johnny Cash's Big River.

Legal marijuana in Colorado. Just observing. Nothing more.

We have been doing a little shopping to get ready. Selina is sporting a new hat for the trip.

We have also had our maps out, plotting our trip. We came up with separate itineraries, but they were very similar. So it was little trouble agreeing on our route.

Heading west, we will wave at the Arch in St. Louis (not accessible), and continue on to Independence MO, Abilene KS, Denver CO, Salt Lake City UT, Kanab UT, Las Vegas, NV, Reno, NV, and finally spend five nights in San Francisco.

On the way back, we will revisit Reno and Salt Lake, then we will go a little farther north into Wyoming and Nebraska before dropping back down to St. Louis, then on to Ohio and back to the Chesapeake Watershed.

I am packing my tape recorder so who knows? Some of this might end up on WYPR.
