After breakfast this morning we left the boat to get on a mini train which is used to transport people to the town of Wertheim. This town is apparently the glass blowing capital of Germany. It was only a five minute ride from our boat! This is a train on rubber wheels, not on tracks. Kind of cute...see photos. The reason to use the mini train is because the roads to and into Wertheim are much too narrow for tour buses to navigate. So we got off at the town entrance and had a tour guide take us around for about an hour. Last night, to coincide with our tour today we had a guest lecturer/demonstrator on glass blowing. This was about an hour demonstration and he was very comical. His family escaped East Germany when the Iron Curtain was present. Anyway, our tour took us to his glass blowing museum and store. Maureen & I bought a glass bird ornament. After this we went and had a coffee with a friend (Char). We did not have much time in Wertheim, and, as 12 noon approached we got back on our mini train and headed back to our boat. It began cruising the balance of the Main River soon after 12:30 PM. We will be entering the Upper Rhine at about 10:30 AM tomorrow morning. It is just past Frankfurt. From this point onwards we only have 3 days left in our cruising tour.
The rest of the day was spent cruising the river and enjoying the scenery and a German Tea time....pastries & coffee. By mid-afternoon it was getting very warm so Maureen & I decided to move inside instead of "cooking" on the upper deck. It was getting too warm. At night after diner we played a game of trivia. We were a team of six and did rather horribly in the game. But it was fun.
