Danube and Rhine Rivers Cruise

PRAGUE
Well, here we are, finally in Prague. Big city...1.3 million people. Most old buildings are original as WWII did not bomb much of this city. Our flight(s), 3 of them were great. From the time we left home, 9 AM I think, we were on the move for almost 20 hours. Yeah...real bummer!. Though everything went well it was the 4 hours in Montreal and the 2 hours in Zurich that took the extra time.
We got in Prague about 11 AM Tues. After a brief intro by our Viking guide we went to our room. It's OK...nothing real fancy. We're on the 5th floor of the Corinthia Hotel. See photo.
After settling into our room Maureen needed some rest, so guess what...I went and found my first geocache in the Czech Republic which was just out the hotel building. A real easy find. But it was hot outside.
This afternoon Maureen & I decided to see a restaurant pointed out to us by someone. Well...the temperature was about 32C and probably felt like 38C or 39C! So, we never did reach our culinary objective as it was too hot. Came back to hotel to relax and wait till later this evening to dine.
Sending some photos, not all that great, but hey, we only just got here, LOL.
Till next time

Had an included breakfast earlier this morning at the Corinthia Hotel, a very super assortment of foods. Best I've seen anywhere in all our travels. Maybe the one in Madrid, Spain was similar...lots of food for breakfast
Today we departed for a walking tour of Prague. Lots of walking supposedly.
Our guide (Jana) took us on a walking tour of two places today, the Prague Castle which aslo inludes inside its complex St.Vitas Cathedral and the Old Town Square. Lots of walking for sure. The castle and church were very interesting, dating back as far as the 12th century. Apparently it is the largest castle in the world!. Took many photos. After this initial tour we went to the Charles Bridge. By then it was getting hot, and both Maureen and I began to feel it. The bridge was full of tourists and beggars and sales boutique, etc. Usual tourist stuff. After the bridge we then walked to the Old Town Square which included Wenceslas Square. Saw the astrological clock. Our tour group then broke off and we went separate ways. In the Old Town Square Maureen & I had soup & drinks for lunch. Minestrone soup for Maureen & cappuccino & prawn soup for me. Expensive!!!!!, ($37.00). Afterwards we walked around a bit doing the tourist thing. Maureen bought a wood plaque. Walked back to square and walked around a bit more then sat and waited for the tour shuttle to take us back to the hotel.
Just an interesting fact to indicate the vast amount of people visiting Prague Czech Republic: last year (2016), there were 7.2 millions tourists who came to Prague! Awesome!

Our enjoyment today was an optional trip to the town of Kutna Hora, a town that in the past (400 some years ago) was the richest mining town in all of Europe, known for its silver mines. It was about an hour & 15 minute drive from Prague. It was a nice sunny and warm day. Not as hot as the previous two days, thank God! The town of Kutna Hora only has about 20 thousand people.
It's very famous also for its medieval church and two monasteries. We did not visit the monasteries but spent considerable time in the church. Took many photos as usual. Better to have taken too many than to wish later on that I had taken this one or that one. We had a free lunch in a restaurant. Both Maureen & I had chicken. It was very good. Maureen Had coke and I had a large pilsner beer. Topped off with apple strudel and whipped cream. We did a bit more walking around afterwards and a bit of shopping. Not much there for shopping though. We had to hurry back to the bus as it looked stormy outside. Made it to the bus just in time as the rain started coming down. However, it cleared up as we got back to our hotel. Tonight we dined in one the hotel's 3 restaurants, The Rickshaw. It is a Thai restaurant. Meal was excellent but again expensive.
Tomorrow we leave by bus at 7:30AM for Budapest where we will embark our river cruise boat The Viking Mimir.
