Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Today our boat docked at a place called Ochsenfurt to let some of us off for the optional trip to Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber. This is the trip Maureen & I will be taking. The boat then continues on to the port of Würzburg to do the included tour of the town of Würzburg. We departed for Rothenburg around 8:45 AM for 1 hour 45 minute drive.
Our time in Rothenburg Ob Der Tauber was very interesting. This is a medieval walled town still preserved in its original style...you know...timbered buildings with stucco walls. There was a lot of damage here during the war but they rebuilt almost all to their
original status, using old photos and pictures from the past. We were guided around some of the key sights and I took a lot of pictures. The old houses are a beautiful sight to see. We then had lunch in a gasthause were we drank some local wine, had potato soup, bratwurst and ending with, guess what?...as usual...apple strudel. Maureen bought a smoking cat and I bought her a little bear with a hood. We then were driven to Würzburg not far from where our boat was docked. But before heading to our boat we visited a Prince Bishop palace, known here in Würzburg as the Würzburg Residence. We were not allowed to take photos inside. Beautiful painted walls, ceilings and hallways, just amazing. Toured the grounds outside, which even with the short time we had we found beautiful. After diner on the boat we were treated to a glass blowing demonstration. He was very entertaining and kept us laughing with his quick wit.
