Danube and Rhine Rivers Cruise

We cruised through the night and in the morning we arrived at the port of Bamberg. Not the prettiest docking site we've ever seen. All people on board including the tour manager feel the same. They'll have to improve their facilities in the near future.
We took the optional excursion through what is called Franconia country. First off was a visit to the Seehof Palace (built 1684-1695) once owned by a "Prince Bishop". Interesting castle with a pretty fountain and lovely grounds. We then went to a small town called Memmelsdorf where they have 2 breweries. The one we visited was called the Drei Kronen (The Three Crowns). We were treated to 2 kinds of beer. One was called burnt beer. Would not be a favourite of

Would not be a favourite of

mine. Also we had pretzels with sweet locally made mustard. This brewery has been in existence since the 1600s and owned by the same family for 4 generations. After those two beers and munchies we drove to a small church called Maria Limbach, just outside of Limbach, Germany. Beautiful baroque inside. Very strange toilet sear found here in mens washroom. Must look at photo for this one, VBG! Then again off we go to a town called Zeil am Main. A town famous for its medieval buildings still intact and not touched by the war. Very pretty. We then walked to where in the past (hundreds of years ago) the town is/was famous for having burnt over 300 witches and warlocks at the stakes. Dungeons are normally known to be underground but here in Zeil the dungeon for the witches was a very high tower. It began to drizzle by now and luckily we had reached the end of our tour and headed back to our boat.
