Aussie Travel 2023 - Part 2

Finally, on Tuesday, our inverter, the last part of our electrical system we had been waiting for arrived at the post office and we were able to pack up and plan the next part of our journey through Queensland. Bulla went out and got the wiring kit for Elsie and Jacko and some other bits and pieces so our fancy electrical system could finally be installed in the not-so-distant future. We celebrated this occasion with Angela, Paul, and their friend with bubbly, beer, and nibbles as the sun was going down and went to bed looking forward to the next part of our adventure.

As Bulla has discovered, retro fitting any system into an older truck or caravan is simply not just running a few wires. All the YouTubers that sell the idea of just quickly installing a lithium battery system never tell you the truth about the cost of the equipment but even less about the impossibility of finding anybody in Australia to actually do the installation. In reality the installation must probably, if you use an professional company, be twice as much as the cost of the equipment as they charge you exuberant hourly rates here. Therefore, Bulla is going to have his phone with YouTube in one hand and a screwdriver and hammer in the other and somehow, with lots of determination, make this work and not get robbed by the locals.

On Wednesday, 28th June, in the afternoon, we finally left after having filled up with water and lots of food and drink for the trip. We decided to stay the night at the ‘Historic Cattle Yard’, a camp that was clearly marked as a campground on the ‘Wikicamps’ app. It was a beautiful drive through the outback which we both really enjoyed. As there are school holidays at the moment, we are trying to avoid the busy places and rather enjoy the peace and quiet.
